Are you a parent in the community in need of a tutor for your child? We often receive requests for tutoring from families near Bard College. Most of the demand is math tutoring, and we also get requests for computer science, physics, biology, chemistry, and more.
To help connect families who are seeking tutors with Bard undergraduates who are interested in tutoring, we’ve set up a tutor board.
Please take a look through our tutor list. Each Bard undergraduate brings a particular skill set with them, no two alike. Look for content mastery, joy and patience in working with young people, an understanding of how children learn, and other skills. Curriculum develop is typically not one of their skills, so be prepared to provide guidance and material on this front.
We recommend that parents and tutors meet for a conversation before the tutoring begins to agree on the details. Where and when will tutoring take place? Not every student has a car, so transportation is an essential item to discuss. How can tutors and parents communicate? (Phone calls, text messages, emails, WhatsApp, and so on). How will payment be arranged? Talking together helps to establish a trusted relationship to support your child’s learning.
