Our next Bard Math Circle session is this Saturday, November 15, 1-3pm at Bard College (read below for directions). Please join us for math problems, math games and logic puzzles, and the excitement of doing math together! We plan our program with students in grades 5-8 in mind, but all ages are welcome. The AMC 8 math contest is also coming up soon, details below.
The events are free, but students should register in advance.
Library Program
The Kingston Library Program is at the Bard College campus this month! Normally we would be meeting at the Kingston Library this Saturday, but just to see what will happen, we’ve decided to hold October’s and November’s sessions on the Bard College campus, and you’re invited! We’ll return to the Kingston Library in December.

Since we’ll be on campus, all student participants must register. (Walk-ins are welcome, but we’ll start out by having your parent or guardian fill in this same form anyway, so why not do that in advance?)

Our format this Saturday will be the same as at the Kingston Library, but there will be more Bard Undergraduate Math Majors there to share some of their favorite mathematical puzzles and activities, including:

AMC 8 Prep - one more session, the topic is arithmetic!

Our collection of challenging math problems for this session has been prepared by our AMC 8 Prep group. The Prep group is for those middle school students preparing for the AMC 8 Contest that we’ll host on Tuesday, November 18 on campus. Undergraduate math majors are meeting weekly on Saturdays with middle school students who are preparing for the contest. Each session features a particular mathematical topic, delivered in the context of a collection of AMC 8 problems from previous years’ contests, and explained by a Bard Math Major!
Dates: October 4th, October 11th, October 18th, October 25th, November 1st, November 8th, and November 15th

Register for the AMC 8 Contest
The Bard Math Circle is hosting the AMC 8 Math Contest on Tuesday, November 18 after school! This 45-minute individual contest consists of 25 multiple choice problems that are accessible at the middle school level, but extremely challenging!
Any student 14.5 years of age or younger on the day of the contest and not enrolled in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 or equivalent is eligible to participate. After the exam, contest participants will be treated to pizza and an engaging math talk by a Bard mathematician.
The event is free, but space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. After all spots have been taken, the registration form will convert to a waiting list sign up.

The registration forms for the math circle, the AMC 8 Prep and the AMC 8 contests are all the same! The reasons for this include our hope that students will participate in more than one Bard Math Circle activity. Also, these events take place on the Bard College campus, so parents need to complete the liability waiver and photo release form as part of the registration process. By combining forms, the waiver and release need be completed only once!
Directions
All the Bard Math Circle events on campus start in RKC, the science building, which houses Bard’s Biology and Computer Science departments. The building is known to students and faculty alike as RKC (an abbreviation for Reem-Kayden Center), but on the campus map, it is listed by the official name, Gabrielle H. Reem and Herbert J. Kayden Center for Science and Computation.

RKC is the large, curvy-shaped building on Campus Road in sector C3, and there is a large and convenient parking lot right in front of it. Park there! Bard’s Directions page may also be of use.
