Update on Spring 2020 Programs
Dear Math Circlers,
HAPPY π DAY! March 14 of each year has been declared the International Day of Mathematics, building on the traditional annual celebration of the wonderful number Pi.
However, the COVID-19 outbreak and ensuing declarations of states of emergency have disrupted our Spring 2020 programming, and we are not able to run our Pi Day event today.
But the situation opens up new opportunities for math learning. To start,

Po-Shen Loh, the national coach of the USA International Mathematical Olympiad team, is offering a free, daily live feed event to discuss mathematics at the middle school level.

Bard Math Circle
MOVED ONLINE!
Get ready for the Purple Comet Math Meet!
We are preparing to move our practice sessions and math meet to an online environment. Please stay tuned as we modify the plan below into a remote, yet interactive event.
The Purple Comet! Math Meet is a team mathematics competition designed for middle and high school students. Teams of from one to six students compete by solving a list of mathematics problems. The problems range in difficulty from fairly easy to extremely challenging. Mark your calendars now! Registration will open soon.

We are optimistically planning for CAMP 2020.
Dates: Monday through Friday, August 3–7, 2020
Time: 9:00am to 3:30pm each day
Location: The idyllic Bard College campus in Annandale-on-Hudson
For: Students currently in grades 5 through 8
Entering its 7th summer in 2020, the Creative and Analytical Math Program (CAMP) is a non-residential academic math enrichment opportunity for students who want to explore challenging math in a relaxed setting. Engaging classes and activities are led by experienced educators and undergraduate math majors. We emphasize hands-on math, teamwork, outside-the-box thinking and creative problem-solving.
The application form will be ready by early April, with April 30 as the priority deadline (followed by rolling admissions). Please join our email list so that we can contact you with updates.

POSTPONED: Celebrate Pi Day with us at Repair Café!
Sadly, our celebration of the mysterious number π will not take place today. We now have a backlog of wonderful Pi Day stickers and bookmarks, as well as amazing Pi-related activities ready to go. Any day is Pi Day (if you want it), and we hope to celebrate Pi Day with you later this year.
Girls' Adventures in Math! (GAIM)
Our campus is all-but closed, and GAIM is in flux. Registration is still officially open until Monday, March 15, but it seems unlikely to impossible for this wonderful event to take place this year.
Register your team for Girls' Adventures in Math! Designed for girls in grades 3–8, this contest has always brought an energetic crowd to Bard College. GAIM is a team-based comic book math competition that features great women from history. Get your teams together!
Registration is open now and the contest will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2020.
