Dear Math Lovers,
Congratulations to all the students who took the AMC 8 this week! The 40-minute and 25-problem contest seemed to last for ages, and then suddenly it was over. Pizza followed, and then a wonderful math talk on the ubiquitous Fibonacci Numbers by Bard College Math Professor Japheth Wood.
The results are expected in early December. The problems (and solutions!) are still top secret until the testing window ends on November 19th.

Talk Title: Fibonacci Numbers, including several problems that are answered by the Fibonacci Numbers and an insightful derivation of Binet's formula.

The Upstate New York Math Team
The team has been inactive for over five years. Now, Bard Math Circle director Japheth Wood has decided to rebuild this tradition. The current goal is to bring a team to ARML at the end of May, 2020. The Purple Comet! Math Meet
An annual team-based math competition designed for middle and high school students. Teams of six students compete by submitting solutions to a list of mathematics problems. The problems range in difficulty from fairly easy to extremely challenging.
The Purple Comet! will be held at Bard between April 21 and 30. Free!
GAIM Girls' Adventure in Math (GAIM)
Registration has recently opened, so join us in Annandale-on-Hudson this coming April 25, 2020 in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY for GAIM 2020! Schools may register as many teams as they’d like, students on each team must attend the same school. Teams compete in one of two divisions: Upper Elementary (Grades 3-5) or Middle (Grades 6-8).
