AMC 8 Contest Information
The AMC 8 is 40-minutes long and consists of 25 multiple choice questions in middle school mathematics. Preparing for the AMC 8 helps develop students’ problem-solving skills and interest in mathematics.
Date: Tuesday, November 12, 2019
Time: The check-in table opens by 4:00pm, the contest starts at 4:30, and the whole event ends by 7:00pm.
Location: Reem-Kayden Center for Science and Computation (RKC), Bard College
GPS Location: 31 Campus Road, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY 12504
For: Students in grades 6–8, younger students are welcome.
Price: Free! Please support the Bard Math Circle and keep it free.
Stay after the contest for refreshments and a math talk!
Prepare for the AMC 8 with us on the Saturdays before the contest. Our Bard Math Majors are offering prep sessions on the weekends leading up to the contest.

Math Talk
After the AMC 8 Contest, students will be treated to refreshments and then an engaging math talk by Bard College Math Professor Japheth Wood. Parents and teachers are welcome to join us.
Speaker: Professor Japheth Wood, Bard College
Talk Title: Fibonacci Numbers, including several problems that are answered by the Fibonacci Numbers and an insightful derivation of Binet's formula.
It's not too early to plan for GAIM! Designed for girls in grades 3–8, this contest has always brought an energetic crowd to Bard College. Girls' Adventures in Math is a team-based comic book math competition that features great women from history. Get your teams together! Registration opens in late 2019 and the contest will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2020.

The Purple Comet! Contest is a team-based competition, with versions for middle school (20 problems in 60 minutes) and high school students (30 problems in 90 minutes). Start practicing now, and stay tuned for more information as we approach the contest window, April 21–30, 2020.
Rebuilding the Upstate NY ARML Team
The American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) is the preeminent team-based high school math competition. Until 2016, Upstate New York's top math students would compete alongside the strongest math students in the nation. Bard College Math Professor Japheth Wood has set the goal of reorganizing the Upstate New York team, and returning to ARML the last weekend in May 2020. Interested? Please get in touch.
