Greetings, mathematicians! It's not quite October yet but we just couldn't wait to tell you about our upcoming events for the month.
Library Programs
We have two library programs this month.
Tivoli Free Library
Our October Math Circle at the Tivoli Free Library will be this Friday, September 30th (or "October 0," if you will). The Tivoli Free Library is located at 86 Broadway, Tivoli, NY 12583. We will play games, solve puzzles, and tackle interesting problems from 4:00 until 5:30 pm.
Kingston Library
Our October Kingston Math Circle is on Saturday, October 15th (note that this is NOT the second Saturday in October, as is our norm at Kingston). We welcome one and all to the Kingston Library at 55 Franklin Street, Kingston, NY 12401. Join us upstairs from 1:00 until 3:00 pm for some enriching problem solving and fun, math-themed crafts, with an emphasis on optical illusions!
All library programs are run on a drop-in basis, and registration is not required. We do ask students to sign in each time, and to provide their name, grade, and school. This is done electronically for Kingston, so please sign in using this link at least once this year.

AMC 8
Competition season is upon us! The Bard Math Circle is proud to offer the AMC 8 exam on November 15, 2016 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm at Bard College (We apologize for the error in our September Newsletter, which stated November 8 as the date of the contest; note the correction). This contest is intended to challenge middle school students with accessible mathematical concepts, but at a level that is above and beyond what is typically encountered in the school curriculum.
Interested in the AMC 8? Register online here for the contest.
Before the contest, join us for AMC 8 prep sessions, led by Bard undergraduate math majors. The sessions run on the weekends of 10/1, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, and 11/12 from 1-4 pm in RKC, Bard's Science Building. The first prep session will be this Saturday, October 1st, in RKC 101 from 1 - 4 pm. The topic will be Geometry. We would love to see you there! You must register for the contest to come to prep sessions, but no additional sign up is required. Just bring your brain! (and maybe a pencil or two)
For more information about prep sessions, please refer to the AMC 8 registration link above. We hope to see you then!
Rubik's Cube Club
Thanks to all who came to the first ever Rubik's Cube Club meeting and made it such a success! The next meeting will be on October 14th from 4:30 - 6 pm in RKC 111. Please sign up for Rubik's Cube Club on our website here.
That's all for now! We're looking forward to seeing you all at these upcoming events.
